The module explores politics, cultures and identities in a globalising world, based on a broad understanding of borders as institutions for organising difference. It includes explorations of material, virtual and symbolic walls; biometrics; languages, nations and nationalism; migration and labour; asylum seekers and refugees; music, culture, and diasporic identity; skin; and two themes that I contribute to: border activism, with as focus on anti-racism versus anti-fascism approaches in 1970s UK; and urban borders and racial segregation in contemporary cities.
